You are 18 years or older and wish to study at an HBO or MBO school*?
The following applies if you are a Urkanian refugee residing in the Netherlands under the directive Temporary protection Ukrainians “RTB”.
In general you can choose your own study when you are 18 or older but you will have to pay for the schoolfees yourself. Regardless if you want to study at the University, an HBO or MBO school.
In case you and/or your parents do not have the the financial means to pay the necessary schoolfees there are currently two options:
You want to study at an HBO school?
You do not have the financial means to pay for the study, the Foundation for Student refugees, the UAF, can maybe assist you in this situation. They offer guidance and financial support depending on your situation. Unfortunately the funding for the years 2025-2026 is no longer available. We advise you to follow their website UAF.NL when a new funding becomes available in the first quarter of 2026!
You want to study at an MBO school?
You do not have the financial means to pay the necessary schoolfees for the MBO education you wish to attend? The official student organisation, DUO, offers possibilities to support you in this depending if you are eligible. We list a few of the requirements before applying:
- you are a Ukranian refugee under the RTB ruling residing in the Netherlands (so with a sticker in your passport)
- you have no financial means to pay schoolfees nor do you have any kind of entitlement for a grant
- you have not paid the schoolfees yet (there is no refund possibility)
- You wish to enroll in an MBO education in the Netherlands
- on August 1, start of the schoolyear, your are 18 or under 31!
